Evelyn POV
“Erm….red.”
“You can’t have a bedroom painted red …” Rex moans at his sister, both of them in the back seats of the car.
“Why not?”
“Rex is right sweetie, it’s too…strong of a colour for your age.” I try to be a little bit more diplomatic than Rex.
“Then blue.”
“No…” Rex’s moan gets even more frustrated.
“I want blue!” Elspeth shouts back at Rex, as I watch her cross her arms through the rearview mirror.
I know what she was thinking, that if she had a blue bedroom Harry would want to play in there with her rather than in Rex’s room when he comes to visit.
“How about pink? Then it’s like a calmer red? Then we can get some cute fairy lights?”
“Ooh yes good idea Mummy.”
An hour later we were leaving the home store with paint, fairy lights and bedding for Elspeth’s new room.
The house had been completed a week ago and we were finalising the last bit of decorating that needed to be done.
Reuben couldn’t decide between two areas of land so he bought both.
The land was split at equal distances between both the Red Stone and the Silver Moon pack lands. Making it fair upon both packs for their alpha families to be living away.
Cassandra and Noah agreed to remain at the Silver Moon pack to offer a constant level of authority to the pack. But I spoke to them every day, more than once and although it was difficult at first, I knew I needed to stop uprooting Rex and Elspeth. They needed stability in a rather turbulent time.
Things were going well. Nate had offered to do the same for Reuben, keeping a watchful eye on the Red Stone pack in Reuben’s absence and reporting anything urgent.
But mainly handling things himself.
Reuben had been busy designing the house and it had been good for him. It gave him something to concentrate on when he had been a little bit distant after the death of Odin.
The Red Stone council hadn’t helped things, they had claimed that we both acted out in an act of revenge.
But when some of the alphas came forward that Renard had contacted to plan and execute an uprising with, they realised we acted quickly on the information we had at hand.
A trial would have left things open for an attack, for Odin to leak information that the council wasn’t keen to be shared.
Overall things had been…calm.
Peaceful.
Rogue attacks had stopped across both alliances. We still had a few rogues venturing into the Silver Moon pack lands but many were as they were before, lost and needing help.
In our new house, Reuben and I had a large shared alpha office. We agreed to let each other run our own packs but would work together and assist with advice.
It also meant rather than spending hours on end alone in single offices, we were still spending each day together… which when the baby comes would mean we can put a crib in the office and carry on working. Taking it in turns to look after the little one.
Being the only female alpha, maternity leave wasn’t really an option for me and Reuben was keen to be part of every moment having missed out in the first four years of the twin’s lives.
Driving back to our new home. I pull up in the front drive way. This may not be Silver Moon or Red Stone pack lands but it was still well guarded, it still ran like a pack in regards to security.
I still had a little time to think about schooling, but for now it was important for us to be together as a family.
Opening the front door, Elspeth rushes past me in search for Reuben. Her arms struggling to carry the fairy lights and bedding, as well as her bunny teddy.
It still went wherever she went. But her anxiety was starting to heal, her night terrors from the basement and Lake House slowly becoming less. Rex was also sleeping better, I think it helped that his new room was all his, no more sharing with his twin sister.
