There went his swift exit.
“Reuben, you need to arrest him and make him stand trial…” I demand through our mate bond, Reuben needs to show his rule is fair and just.
“He’s slippery Evelyn, I can’t have him alive for that long.”
“He may talk…”
“No..trust me he won’t.”
“Alpha Renard here has been assisting my Father in the kidnap of not only my mate here but also our children.”
Reuben yells out to the group, a loud audible gasp ringing out.
“Alpha Renard has been working with Alpha Odin to not only take over the Red Stone pack and alliance…but to also take my mate by force and then take over the Silver Moon alliance too.”
A growl emits throughout the hall, the alphas aren’t happy about this…they were clearly left out of the dark of the true.plan. It wouldn’t be two alliances, it would be a dictatorship.
“If you two are married how is that not different?” An alpha stands up near the front.
“Because I may be Reuben’s mate but my pack and alliance are mine. Make no mistake about that. I would stand against my mate if something he did went against my morals and the true values of the Silver Moon and it’s partner packs.”
“You are married..”
“You would be entering a dictatorship, no votes, no treaties. Is that what you really want?” My own aura starting to push out from me, pushing against Reuben’s.
A low rumble from him informs me that he is disapproving of my rising aggression but tough shit.
The alpha sits down and with my aura filling the room I look at each alpha, the odd alpha son staring at me with a smirk. His eyes look directly into mine and it takes me a lot of willpower to finally look away.
“Where is he? Where is my Father?” Reuben’s done playing by the rule book now, I can tell.
“You’re weak, nothing compared to the king he was. Go to hell!” Renard spits out, his face turning red with the level of hatred he holds for Reuben. Mind control, Odin has had him under the thumb for so long he can’t even see it. Doesn’t even want to envisage a different life.
Reuben is right, this alpha is not for changing. He can’t be left alive. He causes too much of a threat to our family and the shifter community.
“You have sided with a man that would kill his own flesh and blood for power.”
“This is the dictatorship and it will only stop if we fight now, if we kill Reuben.” Renard turns to the men in the room, expecting them to launch their own attack. He really is delusional.
My warriors and now Reuben’s are spreading out further. No one would be attacking us.
Reuben tries to move me behind him but I step aside, I won’t cower behind him from a threat. But I do calm my mate by asking Noah to stand the other side of me through the mind-link. I can tell by Reuben’s body language that he appreciates my move.
“I’m going to enjoy killing you…” He smirks like something from a dark forest, the predator finding its prey. His warriors take on a mirroring attack stance.
“But you can’t…I’m part of the alliance and in the treaty is an agreement that you can’t kill your own ally pack members…even alphas. I made sure it was put in there.” Renard lifts his chin up high, taking on an arrogant look.
“Fucker…” I hear Reuben curse under his breath.
“Is that true?” I mind-link Reuben.
“Yes, the treaty forbids it.” He responds. But surely it would forbid a pack mutiny also against their king? A twisted, incorrectly informed, uprising?
“So there’s not a lot you can do…” Renard has the audacity to turn his back on my mate, on his alpha king.
Something inside of me loses its shit at this, something snaps. Whether it’s the baby sensing something or my wolf wanting to protect her mate. Or me having been taught differently by my parents, seeing the turning of a back as an insult…whatever the reason my anger has flared up and I take a step forward, out of Reuben’s reach as he tries to grab for me and pull me back.
“That’s interesting to know Renard, because you aren’t part of the Silver Moon alliance. So I have no treaty with you to adhere to.”
