Evelyn POV
As soon as Reuben launches the attack he steps on the car gas pedal and brings the car back to life. He speeds around the road corner, trying to make the most of the distraction Nate has created. And it seems to have worked.
As we reach the main gates there are only two guards on patrol who can’t withstand Reuben’s kingly aura and succumb to his command to open the gates.
Their alpha might be a turn coat but they are still part of Reuben’s alliance… still following Reuben’s rule.
Our car is closely followed by my warriors in their own vehicles as the Red Stone warriors are breaking through on foot.
Our arrival doesn’t go unnoticed by the pack members. As soon as we park the car up outside the suspected meeting hall, they pick up their children and run back to their homes.
As if expecting a fight to break out.
I wasn’t expecting violence, but it’s good to be prepared all the same.
We don’t waste any time, Nate has bought us a few minutes and we can’t let them go unused.
We enter the brick building positioned next to the Alpha House.
Reuben had said during the strategy phase that it was used to host balls, even the moon conferences in the past when Odin was King. So this building was the most likely of places for Renard to host the meeting.
Reuben wasn’t wrong. As soon as he pushes on the double wooden doors all eyes turn to look at us. Reuben’s hands wrap tightly around my waist, keeping me under his arm.
A threatening, menacing growl rumbles from Reuben’s chest, as we start to walk further into the room. There’s quite a few pack figure heads here.
The hall has been arranged like a wedding. Chairs in lines on either side of the middle aisle, and Renard standing at the head…preaching to his visitors.
“My King, what a surprise?” Renard’s eyes flash around the room, no doubt looking for the quickest exit to escape out of.
I can feel eyes penetrating into me. I’m meant to be the sworn enemy of the Red Stone pack but here I am, the alpha but also Reuben’s mate and wife.
The eyes are no threat to me…except for one. One pair of eyes make something shudder within me. He must be one of these alpha’s sons.
Reuben stops us in the middle aisle, my men flanking us from behind as they start to fan out at my order.
“I imagine it is Renard. This is a big gathering of alphas to not disclose it to the Red Stone council?”
Reuben was King but he still had a council that assisted him…pack elders as it were.
They assisted with the alliance treaties and advised on potential conflict. Although I think Reuben hasn’t been communicating with them very well in recent weeks as much as he used to.
“What are we discussing tonight?”
Reuben seethes as he glares at the snake before him. He is greeted by silence, Renard refusing to admit the topic of the meeting.
“Hm? Any volunteers to inform my wife and I?” Reuben’s annoyance was starting to create a heavy atmosphere in the room caused by his aura. He needs to rein it in.
“You all are here to discuss my leadership, that perhaps it isn’t up to par? Before you decide to follow this traitor and believe the lies he has told you…”
“I’ve not…”
“Silence!” Reuben roars so loudly that it echos throughout the meeting hall. All spines elongating, a sign of respect for the alpha king before them.
Reuben is different with me, but in a room full of alphas he has been known to be cold and ruthless. His wolf often known to take control at times, which can be unpredictable even for Reuben.
“You…what is the purpose of this meeting?” He releases a strong command onto an alpha who is already part of his alliance, full well knowing the alpha will struggle to fight his command.
“Questioning your strength as King sire, and whether your father should be reinstated…” The alpha admits, his neck turned in submission. He didn’t give much of a fight.
“Why you little shit…” Renard takes a threatening step towards the alpha in a moment of anger. Forgetting my warriors now surround the room.
His eyes flicker back to the nearest exit and his shoulders sag as the door opens to reveal Nate entering and now standing guard.
