Liberty POV
I spent the first night in a cheap hotel but when they asked for payment, I knew I couldn’t stay another night. I wouldn’t have enough money to last the week. Well here I am a week later, with hardly any money left and no hotel room.
At least I got a chance to dye my hair in the hotel room. I was becoming paranoid since I heard that mobile phones can trace people..what about the CCTV cameras that aligned every street? They watched people when I was little so what the hell could they do now?
I went with brown…why not? I’ve always wanted to be a brunette. Mum was a brunette, I got my blonde colour from Father.
It’s only a temporary colour, the shop girl said it should last about a month. It sounds perfect, I hope to be in another country by then.
After checking out of the hotel room I hopped onto a bus that took me to some kind of industrial business estate, warehouse buildings were everywhere.
I managed to find a map on the bus and was looking at routes out of the country, and watching lorries arrive and depart the area. I’m planning my exit using a lorry to drive me directly to the port. Planning to catch a free ride.
I found a warehouse that was up for sale, empty in the day and empty in the night…perfect. That’s been my hide away.
Yes I smell, yes I find the night time noises from the wooded area outsides freakily scary at night but at least I was saving money.
I was finding it hard to sleep especially at night. Something about being outside under the moon was the only thing to calm me. Odd, as I never craved it before.
I never lasted long outside alone under the moon, a lot of small animal noises coming from the woods scared me. My mind playing games with me.
I think I was coming down with something, I was cold, my muscles shivering yet my skin was hot when touched. My forehead sweating from the temperature I was fighting.
I needed to get some pain killers or flu tablets but cash was running low and I had reduced myself to the clearance section at the small supermarkets and one to two meals a day. I was already losing my womanly curves. Maybe I didn’t need a boob reduction after all.
I was snuggled up with a blanket I had found although my body was still shivering. I haven’t been this ill in a long time, my eyes were burning as they were grateful for the late time of the day.
My ears were on full alert, listening for the usual animal noises outside which continued to give me a headache. I really needed to move my sorry ass tomorrow and get some pain killers.
I was drifting off to sleep when a loud bang startled me, my ears even more on high alert. I pick up the metal bar that I found in one of the offices upstairs and slowly make my way to the fire exit.
I raise the bar up high, ready to beat the shit out of any pervert that may attack me…my heart beating extra fast.
I could feel it pounding against my chest, already working hard to fight this infection, now I was only straining it further.
Come on Liberty..don’t be chicken shit. I try to build up my self confidence, before I open the fire exit. Attack or be attacked. Come on girl you’ve got this.
I push open the fire exit door, the metal bar ready to attack when I feel like a royal idiot. A dog! It was just a dog sniffing around the place.
A huge dog. I start to backtrack when my foot steps on some broken pieces of glass, causing the dog to look at me and growl.
“Get back!” My inner psyche orders at me and I try to do as she says but the huge scary dog, quickly becomes two huge scary dogs.
“It’s okay…I’m nobody…I’m not here to hurt you. I’m just very…slowly…going to walk away…” I very slowly talk to them, because dogs can understand humans can’t they?
The second dog sniffs the air before joining the first in a prowling walk towards me.
“Run!” My head shouts at me and my legs start to run themselves. I run back into the warehouse, towards another emergency exit, hoping I can lock the dogs inside and make my getaway but shit they were fast.
Of course they were Lib they are dogs. I make it outside but they are already snapping at my heels that I don’t get a chance to lock them inside as I planned.
I need height…I need to climb a tree.
I keep running, heading into the eery darkness of the woodlands hoping to find a climbable tree. My eyes still burning, having moments of blurry vision from this fever I can’t shake off.
They both stop, and it isn’t until they start howling to the moon that I realise this huge mutant dogs are…wolves. Christ!
I’m not sure how long I have run but I seem to have gone in some kind of circle as I find the warehouse buildings in front of me. Relief fills me, if I can just make it inside I can hold them off by barricading the doors.
“With what?” That voice enters my head again but what concerns me even more is that I just naturally respond to it.
“I’ll find something.”
I’m almost at the buildings when my relief is short lived and I can’t believe what I am seeing. Wolves now running towards me from in front. Since when did this country have a wild wolf problem?
I stop, trying to think and catch my breath. Before I know it I am surrounded in a circle by wolves. Thankfully I still have my metal bar in hand, any that dare to come near me will lose some fur and blood.
They are all growling at me, heads low readying to attack. I am so close to the building, if I can dodge their attacks I should be able to make it.
I take a side step only for the largest of the wolves to snarl at me in a menacing manner.
Did wolf packs have a leader? If so this was it, he was huge. He was brown, large and scary…but nothing compared to the large black wolf that looked like something from my nightmares. He was exquisite yet a wild animal ready to kill.
The black wolf moves towards me, it oddly doesn’t feel threatening but I raise my bar just to be safe. But the brown leader wolf bares his teeth and nudges the other one away. They pounce on each other instantly, trying to bite at one another, a fight for dominance.
I move back, wanting to get away from their animal fight only for teeth to snap near my back leg, warning me not to move.
I’m petrified, frozen in a state of fear as I watch these two wolves fight on another. The brown one seemingly stronger than the black, but the black one not willing to give up.
I’m rooting for him. But what for? What will the winner get…to eat me? I gulp, my body exhausted but surviving on adrenaline.
Angels. I’ve never seen an angel until now. She comes as if from nowhere, wearing a white ribbed vest dress, her long white blonde hair following past her shoulders. She runs, runs to save me only she slows down as she reaches the circle of wolves. I want to shout at her to go, to get help but I watch in awe as the wolves part, making space for her.
The two wolves haven’t noticed her, their fight continuing and only finally stop when a loud terrifying growl leaves her. Okay maybe not an angel after all. Was she a wolf whisperer?
The two wolves step apart, snarling at one another, preparing to fight again. Boldly, she taps the nose of the brown wolf who seems to understand the pointed look she is giving him. Yet he seems just as displeased at her presence.
The black wolf enjoys the other wolf being reprimanded until his eyes turn onto me. Did he win? Am I going to be eaten now?
He prowls towards me, a perfect night time predator. The rest of the wolves turn silent, no longer snapping or growling at me, I’m still frozen, unable to move when he comes close to me, sniffing my private parts.
“Hey!” I push his snout out, only for him to lick my hand. My eyes widen, my breathing becoming erratic as the wolf turns into a man in front of me. I can’t believe what I just witnessed.
A tall muscular, bloody attractive man with the deepest of skin colour. He was …majestic as a wolf or as a human.
He looks down at me and I can’t but help look down at him, he was butt naked and I can’t help but stare at his goods. As my eyes flicker back up to his face, a smirk forms upon his, before his low strong voice speaks. “Mine!”
