Mallory cleared her throat. “It’s hard not to know about the commotion that’s been happening within the borders of Wavery.”
Josie glanced at her, seemingly understanding everything.
By the time everything was wrapped up, it was already evening. Josie felt utterly exhausted, her body aching all over after a full day of acupuncture treatments.
Surprisingly, Mark hadn’t left yet. He was in good spirits, but there was a hint of caution in his demeanor. “Josie, the doctor said you’re out of danger now. It’s not ideal for you to stay in the hospital indefinitely. You don’t have a permanent residence in Wavery, so how about… How about you come back with me to the Olsen Residence?”
He spoke cautiously, fearing she might disagree.
Seeing Josie’s expression change, he quickly added, “Of course, if you’re not comfortable with it, that’s fine, too. I can arrange for a hotel or an apartment. You can choose wherever you want to go. I won’t force you!”
Mallory glanced at Josie’s expression and subtly pinched her. The meaning behind her action was self-evident.
Josie lowered her long eyelashes. The Olsen Residence held too many unpleasant memories for her. However, given the circumstances, since the Olsen family was already involved, she had to take control. “Okay. I’ll go back with you.”
Mark’s face lit up with excitement, and he suddenly slapped his thigh. “All right, I’ll have someone prepare the car!”
After he had helped her into the car, Mallory went off to attend to other matters. Along the way, he kept sending her messages: Don’t be foolish. Make sure to seize the Olsen family’s resources. They all belonged to you. Neither familial love nor romantic love could ever outweigh the importance of money. Don’t just hand it over to others.
Josie’s lips curved into a smile. As she lifted her head, her gaze met the driver’s. Taking the initiative, the driver introduced himself. “Ms. Olsen, I am Old Mr. Olsen’s personal assistant. We met a few times two years ago. You can call me Draco.”
Being a personal assistant was a prestigious position, even allowing him to drive her around personally.
Josie rolled down her car window, the evening breeze causing her hair to become a disheveled mess. It had been two years since she last returned, and the streets of Wavery had changed significantly.
She didn’t expect things to change that much. “Have there been a lot of changes in the Olsen family?”
“You can take a look at this yourself, Ms. Olsen, answered the driver.
The vast expanse remained unchanged, but the layout had undergone significant transformation. It was evident that it had been renovated. As they drove in, the mansion was brightly lit, resembling a castle. Housekeepers and bodyguards stood in line, and leading them was none other than Claudia.
Mark’s car was leading the way. He was the first to get out, exchanging a few words with Claudia. Subsequently, her expectant gaze immediately fell on Josie’s car.
Draco said, “You’ve been on Mrs. Olsen’s mind constantly for the past two years.”
Claudia hadn’t changed much from the image in Josie’s memory, still exuding an air of grace and composure. A gentle breeze rustled through his hair, revealing a touch more white than before.
Josie sat in the car for a while, her heart pounding uncontrollably. She never dreamed he would return.
She mentally prepared herself to get out of the car. The housekeepers and bodyguards chimed in unison, “Welcome home, Ms. Olsen!”
Josie was indifferent, locking eyes with Claudia from afar. One was cold and detached, the other anxious. Despite the distance between them, they both harbored unspeakable pain.
For a moment, she stepped forward. In haste, Mark said, “Your mother heard that I was coming to pick you up. She spent the entire day anxiously waiting by the door. These past two years, both she and I, we’ve missed you terribly.”
Josie had already approached, and she called out, “Ma’am.”
The warm and proud expression on Mark’s face suddenly froze, and the faint smile on Claudia’s face also came to a halt.
The atmosphere was tense, with only the chirping of nocturnal insects piercing the silence of the night.
However, Claudia reacted swiftly. She scrutinized Josie from head to toe, nodding her head in a mix of relief and reassurance. “I’m glad you’re okay. Let’s go inside and talk, it’s quite windy out here.”
