When Dexter disguised himself as a bodyguard, he had already scoped out the location of the surveillance camera. Right then, he silently went over and covered it with his jacket.
Josie held his breath, but he was well-trained. With bated breath and a focused mind, he moved so silently that there wasn’t even a whisper of sound and successfully evaded the bodyguards.
In the confined space, only the skylight allowed for ventilation, so the room was filled with the stench of money.
For the first time, Josie vividly experienced the so-called stench of money.
Dexter was still searching for something. With her back to the bodyguard, Josie sat on the ground and typed a message to him: What are you looking for?
After he had finished running his hands over the last section of the nearby floor, he replied: There’s usually a device in this part of the ship that leads to the sea, something akin to what we’d normally call a sewer. We need to find it and open it.
Understanding dawned upon Josie. She bent over and helped to search for it, but with cash piled up everywhere, it was actually very difficult to find what they were looking for. For a moment, she felt somewhat disheartened.
Unsure of how to express her feelings, she joked: This money could last a lifetime. What about you, Dexter? Do you have this much money?
Dexter glanced over, a smile curving his lips in the darkness. A bodyguard happened to look their way at that moment, so he took her hand instead of taking out his phone, writing on her palm: You can help me out and see if you can finish spending it all.
In other words, he was telling her to tie herself to him for a lifetime and see if she could spend all his money.
Josie’s palm itched. As she grasped his meaning, her face heated in the darkness. She gestured in response: Let your daughter give it a try.
Though she indeed loved money, she was not one to fall into the trap. Besides, Dexter was sure to have a wealth of assets, so it was only fair for her to fight for a share on behalf of Grape.
The two of them were exceedingly close. As they interacted, their breaths intertwined, and they inevitably blushed.
Upon hearing the rapid heartbeat, Josie initially thought it was her own. However, once she came to her senses, she realized it was Dexter’s. Frowning, she pointed at him and asked: Are you okay?
He shook his head and bent over to continue searching for the mechanism.
Both of them knew in such a cramped space, finding it depended entirely on luck, but they had no other option. That was their only way out.
A bodyguard was bored on duty and muttered, “Dude, even though this money is important, isn’t it a bit overkill to have so many people watching over it? It’s not like it can sprout wings and fly away.”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a sharp nudge hit him. “Are you out of your mind? What if the enemy intercepts the ship? We’d both lose our lives.”
Another bodyguard chimed in, “Yeah. Just a while ago, Mr. Carter was looking for someone. I have no idea who it was, but it seemed like a big deal. You’d better hope nothing goes wrong.”
“I wouldn’t even dare imagine it. We’d be doomed if something went wrong on our watch.”
Just then, there was a sudden knock on the door. The three bodyguards exchanged glances, but still, they stepped forward and opened the door.
Josie’s heart was leaped into her throat, and she instinctively turned her gaze to Dexter.
He gently shook his head in reassurance.
“Ms. Yowell! Why are you here?” the bodyguards exclaimed in surprise.
It was none other than Josephine. She had an extraordinary aura about her, but as she stood alone at the door at that moment, she looked somewhat bewildered in the face of so much cash.
“I came on behalf of Mr. Mills to check on things. Nothing went wrong, right?” she asked, calm and composed.
“Up until now, everything has been well. Please tell Mr. Mills that there’s no need for concern.”
Josephine went on her tiptoes, trying to peek into the warehouse. Alas, the bodyguards shifted sideways and blocked her. “This is a private and confidential area, Ms. Yowell. I apologize.”
“Isn’t it just money? What’s there to hide?”
“That’s not what I meant…”
While they were conversing outside, Dexter subtly changed his position. He moved behind the bodyguard, holding a stun baton in his hand, taken from the bodyguard he had knocked unconscious.
