153. Managing The Group
With her heart in her throat, Heidi lifted her head slowly, meeting her mother’s scrutinizing eyes, dreading filling her chest.
“You are not eating your food, why?”
At her mother’s question, Heidi let out a breath she’d suppressed ever since the woman called out her name.
Was she paranoid thinking that her mother might speak about something else?
She forced a smile and replied, “I’m gonna eat now, Mum.”
Yet, everyone stared at her strangely.
Lost in her own world of thoughts, Heidi didn’t realize that they all found her odd silence interesting.
“Ha! Heidi must be feeling burdened by the new position of the AG Group’s CEO already. Now she looks like a drenched rat seeking shelter!” Aiden slapped the desk, laughing.
“You have bit off more than you can chew, Heidi,” Lilian added. “We were all right by saying you aren’t up to this job.”
“Have I not warned you all to never fight again at this table? Lilian, Aiden, will you not follow my orders until I throw you out!?” Grandpa Jeffery looked displeased.
Lilian and Aiden quieted down, each mumbling some incoherent words.
Grandpa Jeffery turned to Heidi. “How are you managing the Group, Heidi? Is the job very difficult?”
“Not so difficult that I can’t handle, Grandpa.” Heidi laughed softly. “We are working on winning back our former allies.”
“Good! Keep it up.” Grandpa Jeffery beamed with happiness. “Heidi, and Natalie, I am counting on you both for AG Group’s success. Make Grandpa proud, and your Grandma will also be happy in her grave.”
Lilian and Aiden’s expressions turned bitter.
“What about us, Grandpa? Are we just going to remain jobless?”
“Grandpa, I’m tired of staying all day at home and running away from people. Because Heidi humiliated me, now my friends laugh at me.”
Lilian pursed her lips. “If you don’t want this family to be torn apart, better tell Heidi to speak publicly and clear my name, Grandpa.”
“I think the best thing is if you do the same. Invite the media and hold a public conference then confess your crime and promise you’ve turned a new leaf,” Grandpa Jeffery suggested. “It is a great way to gain people’s favor.”
“Why should Lilian apologize?” Aiden stood up. “Heidi’s the one at fault.”
“It isn’t only Lilian that is going to apologize, even you, Aiden!” Grandpa Jeffery’s eyes turned cold. “I’ve had enough of seeing you guys do as you wish! In this household, I give the orders!”
“Even if you call the shots, Grandpa-”
“Aiden, are you insane! Quit exchanging words with your grandfather. Show some respect!”
No one expected Harold Olsen to suddenly scold his beloved son.
Everyone at the dining table was surprised including Grandpa Jeffery and Aiden.
“But, Dad-”
“Shut up! Sit down!”
“Father, I apologize. Please don’t mind his actions.” Harold went to the point of apologizing to Grandpa Jeffery.
He didn’t stop there. “I will teach Aiden and Lilian a lesson. We have spoiled them too much because they’re the youngest.”
“Dad!”
“Come on, Dad!”
“Harold, have you finally differentiated right from wrong?” Grandpa Jeffery frowned. “In that case, I will ask you a favor. You are very familiar with the AG Group, why don’t you give Heidi some guidance?”
“You took the words out of my mouth, Dad!” Harold smiled. “I was planning to propose the same thing, to help Heidi revive the Group.”
Heidi dropped her spoon, her heart filled with confusion. As she stared at her uncle, discomfort crept inside her.
Whenever Harold Olsen was nice, it was always bad news that followed.
What was he up to this time?
Heidi was still in her train of thought when the Butler burst into the dining room.
Panting heavily, Butler Cole waited to catch his breath.
“Everyone, have you seen this!?” He dropped the tablet in the center of the table for everyone to see. “I am sorry for interrupting your breakfast, b-but this… there’s a huge fire in the AG Group.”
“Did the company catch a fire?” Grandpa Jeffery stood up.
The Butler flicked off his sweat. “Not really, but another large investor has pulled out. The beverage company under the AG Group is closing its business.”
All eyes turned to Heidi.
