117. On His Own
‘What kind of girl gets a relationship and a marriage proposal at the same time?’
Heidi should be feeling bliss, over the moon. But Steve’s words only brought discomfort to her heart. Not because she repulsed him, but because no one had ever treated her this way before.
Throughout the rest of the ride to the hospital, Heidi remained silent, an air of awkwardness lingering in the atmosphere.
The evening came, the sun had gone down, paving way for darkness in the sky.
Lucas returned home, holding several bags with tags on them. He entered the living room in haste, his hopeful eyes straying upstairs.
“Heidi!” He called out, dropping the many bags on the couch.
Inside the bags were branded clothes, shoes, and bags. After receiving an invitation to a business gala a while ago, he thought about Heidi and bought all this designer wears.
From now henceforth, Lucas Harrison would be taking his wife along to all the important events.
But finding the home oddly silent, Lucas’s brows furrowed.
Was Heidi still sleeping?
“Mira!” He yelled out the maid’s name, his voice laced with impatience.
Mira scurried out of the kitchen area, her head lowered, trying to hide the guilt in her eyes. As if she’d been listening to Lucas Harrison’s calling to his wife. “Y-Young Master, you called
“Where’s Heidi?” Lucas asked.
Mira avoided his gaze. “The- The Young Madam-”
“Speak clearly,” Lucas commanded her, his tone turning harsh. Seeing the maid acting weird, his expression darkened.
“W-Well, the Young Madam has left, Young Master…” Mira hesitated. “A Young Man came here, destroyed the Villa’s security, and left with the Young Madam.”
That was when Lucas noticed that the security had indeed been tampered with. He didn’t realize it because he came back excited to see Heidi.
A Young Man?
Who was that person?
“Didn’t I ask you to watch over her? Why didn’t you stop her!?” He scolded the maid.
“Young Master,” Mira cried. “The Madam was so eager to leave. I did my best to stop her, she just didn’t want to stay.”
Hearing the maid’s explanation, Lucas’s dark expression turned into a sullen one and he sank onto the couch.
Mira knelt beside him. “Young Master, why is the Young Madam so mad at you? Why doesn’t she want to return?”
Lucas shook his head, meaning he didn’t know.
“The Young Madam has never hated you before. Every day, while you’re at work, she spoke about you all day. She also gave me strict instructions to not make any mistakes that would make you displeased. What went wrong, Young Master? I thought the Young Madam loved you so much.”
Lucas looked down, letting the maid’s words sink in. He was the biggest fool to not realize that early.
His phone rang and he brought it out. Seeing Grandpa Winston’s name flashing on the screen, Lucas sighed before answering it.
Now he felt guilty towards his grandfather too, who had tried so hard to make him see the goodness in Heidi.
“Grandpa-”
“Lucas Harrison, what was the meaning of that? Do you have an explanation for what happened at your office today?”
“Well, Grandpa-”
“No, I don’t want to hear a single word on the phone. Come down to the mansion and tell me everything.”
And Grandpa Winston hung up, not giving him the chance to speak.
“The dinner is ready, Young Master. Aren’t you going to eat?” Seeing him about to leave, Mira asked.
However, Lucas only shook his head before leaving for the Mansion. Grandpa Winston was in the living room with the Butler.
When Lucas arrived, he met them discussing in hushed tones.
“Aha, you are here.” Grandpa Winston sighted him from the doorway and he strode forward. “Those documents the lawyer said were missing, how did it come about? I thought you were serious about the divorce, Lucas Harrison.”
Grandpa Winston must be speaking harshly, but there was big hope in his heart, eager to know why his grandson acted along with the lawyer.
Lucas already had a feeling that Grandpa Winston was behind the lawyer’s strange behavior.
He didn’t beat around the bush. “I am no longer interested in the divorce. Grandpa, I want Heidi back.”
His words were like music to Grandpa Winston’s ears. The old man almost had another heart attack from the excitement.
He coughed so hard that the Butler ran back and forth from the kitchen, bringing him a glass of water.
“You-You, Lucas Harrison. You’re not pulling my legs, are you?” Grandpa Winston gave him a doubtful look.
Lucas sat beside him, his eyes serious. ” I am not, Grandpa. I really want Heidi back.”
Grandpa Winston’s happiness was as high as the mountains and he exchanged happy glances with the Butler.
Then he put on a dark expression.
Why then did you lie to me? Lucas Harrison, didn’t you say you don’t love Heidi?”
“That, Grandpa…” Lucas said in a low sullen voice. “That was a misunderstanding. I didn’t realize how important Heidi is to me until now.”
Lucas was transparent with his words, seeing no reason to hide his emotions from his Grandfather.
Grandpa Winston’s kind heart was quick to sympathize with his Grandson.
Yet, supporting Lucas Harrison too soon would be spoiling him. So he said, “Now that you have differentiated white from black, what are you waiting for? Go and bring Heidi back.”
“But she doesn’t want to come back.”
“Well, every sane person won’t give in easily after having their pride crushed. Keep trying, Grandson.”
“Grandpa-”
“You’re on your own, Lucas Harrison.”
Lucas left Grandpa Winston’s quarters, his already dampened mood worsening.
Then he bumped into Blake Harrison on his way out. “Son, we need to discuss about you and Tracy!”
