74-Avoiding her
Next day upon waking up when she went to the kitchen and started preparing breakfast for him. Usually, it used to be pancakes smothered with maple syrups covered with berries or an English muffin topped with Nutella or cream cheese accompanied with a cup of coffee.
They used to enjoy their breakfasts but today she was planning to make something unusual and a little lavish.
She started preparing cinnamon rolls with caramel sauce, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce for Eggs Benedict. She was doing it quickly to do everything in time.
After everything was ready, she started setting the table. She knew it wasn’t much but she wanted to make something different to make him happy.
“Kevin. Please send fresh coffee when Hunter comes down.” She said taking a look at her small effort.
“Mr. Levisay has already left for the office, Ma’am!” Butler informed her. Abigail went rigid but then recovered quickly trying to force a smile on her lips. This was something unexpected but she did not let her face show anything.
“Oh. How can forget that?” she facepalmed. He has been too busy lately. Can you please ask Edina to pack the breakfast for Hunter? It’s better if I take it to his office.”
She got ready with a sinking heart. Something was not right. While picking up her purse, she noticed something on the nightstand. It was a black Amex card as promised by Hunter with her name ABIGAIL LEVISAY embossed on it. When she reached there, Hunter was not in his office.
“Ava, whenever Hunter returns please let me know?”
“Mr. Levisay is in the conference room, Abigail.”
“Oh. Thanks.’
So Hunter must have left early because he has to attend meetings. Nice. I guess I was worried for nothing.
She went back and started getting the follow-ups on the Empowerment program with different departments. She also requested Mrs. Ann to take the packed breakfast to Hunter.
After internal meetings, she got busy with Mike for her own consignments. Once when she got done with everything, she felt tired. She came out to talk to Ava, “Is Hunter done with the meetings?”
Ava seemed dead busy with phone calls, “Mr. Levisay does not have any meeting today.” She informed her while covering the mouthpiece.
“Oh. Then … the conference room?”
“He is just busy there doing some work. His hands are full.”
“Ava please be a sweetheart and send two coffees to the conference room?” Abigail batted her eyes making Ava smile.
Abi went to the conference room and opened the door slowly peeking her head. Hunter was engrossed in his work. His side of the conference table was full of file stacks and the laptop.
“Hello.” She smiled.
“Hey.” He lifted his head with the trace of a smile and got back to work.
“I made you breakfast this morning but you had already left.” She looked around casually while sitting before him.
“Hmm. Thanks.” He said while typing something with his brows knitted. She just sat there reading his face. His jaw was clenched and she wanted to touch it for smoothing away the tension from his body. Just then their coffee arrived.
“How many times should I tell you, people, not to disturb me during my work.” He got furious at the interruption. “Who let you in? I don’t know why Mrs. Ann takes so much time for a damn lunch break.” The man who brought coffee got panicked a little. Even Abi was not ready for this sudden outburst.
“I asked them, to bring us coffee, Hunter.” Abigail said a little nervously to which Hunter’s only response was hmm.”
Abigail never fell short of words with him. For her, he always used to be so easy going and friendly but this Hunter Levisay seemed different.
This was not the same man she had enjoyed her vacation with. This man was the one whom she heard about from other people. And she was blaming her dense skull for even thinking that he would find her desirable. Why had she forgotten that they both belonged to diverse worlds?
They were two entirely different people with entirely different preferences.
He was there just to help her out of her misery. She asked him to marry her and he came to her aid when she needed him most. No questions asked, no advantages taken. He offered her everything. This time she had certainly crossed the line.
She was scared.
Frightened.
She did not want to lose him. She valued their friendship a lot and guess what. She had blown away everything. “Would you be home for dinner? I am planning to cook something different ”
“Hunter. They are here for the meeting. Just in time.” Mrs. Ann entered the room in a hurry and nodded towards her. “They are seated in the conference hall.”
Leaning back in his seat Hunter stretched and stood swiftly, “Please bring all the blue colored files there. We need to get it done today.” then turning to her, he smiled.
“I would be late, sugar, so no need to bother with the dinner. Get something prepared for yourself and don’t go to bed empty stomach.” He said before leaving.
She saw the door closing and then sat on his seat to get some warmth which was slowly fading away. She jumped when her phone started ringing, “Hey, Moll.”
“Hey, Abi. Did my hard work pay off?” She could feel her cheeks burning a little. She told Molly everything that Kyle had done last night skipping the study room details.
She made it seem like she was too upset for what Kyle did to her, effectively turning away Molly’s attention from her primary concern regarding their physical intimacy and her stupid desire for Hunter.
