63- Place the file
Today was a very hectic day. When he entered the apartment, he found a pile of clothes lying around his feet. He picked that up and threw it in the hamper.
The kitchen counter was still occupied with dirty dishes. It was as dirtier as he had left in the morning. He usually tried his best to make it spotless before leaving for work. In the bedroom, Chloe was watching a movie, her mouth was stuffed with cheese burger.
Seeing Kyle entering the room, she tried to gulp it down with the wine.
“Alcohol is not good for the baby.” He remarked casually because he did not have much energy to pick a fight with her.
“Sorry.” She muttered and unexpectedly put back the glass on the nightstand.
He had always been an active participant in home chores. Doing it with Abigail used to be fun. No matter how much tired they used to be. After returning from work they used to get it done within one hour.
But right now, he felt so lethargic. He did not want to shout or scream at Chloe because she was the one being all hormonal and moody.
She was carrying his child. She had already resigned from the job. She did not want to do any house chores. Kyle was fine with it. But at least, he expected her to move her bum and make it a little presentable.
Something which would not take too much effort. He loosened his tie and started picking up empty wine bottles, used empty boxes of burgers, and French fries.
“What are you doing?” She asked raising her eyebrow. At last, she was realizing that she needed to pitch in..
“Cleaning, sweetheart.” He told her busily but stopped when heard her absurd request.
“I want to eat nachos.” Lying on the bed on her tummy, her hand under her chin. Her cleavage was too visible in this position.
“Nachos?” He asked in astonishment. removing his gaze from the tempting pair which wanted to pop out of her top.
“Yeah. Nachos.” She nodded dangling her feet.
“But didn’t you just have a burger?”
“So?Who said I can’t have nachos after a damn burger?” She rolled her eyes.
He sighed resuming his job of picking up used napkins, “Can you please help me with it. I can do the dishes if you want. Just don’t leave them around. It gives me an extreme headache.”
“Can’t we afford a house help?” She chewed her lip, “A temporary one?”
“Soon, Chloe. Just a little more patience maybe.” He was so weary that he was not able to manage a fake smile. Right now the only thing on his mind was Sleep. He wanted to hit the bed without any arguments.
Chloe wanted to hit something on his head. That was simply not fair. Abigail ended up with Hunter. She did not need to lift a finger. She was now the owner of a big house. Her elder sister could now afford the whole building of Galaxy apartments.
While Chloe?
She did not have anything in her name. The apartment belonged to Kyle. Not her. And then she made an absurd request, Can you give me this apartment as my birthday present?”
“What?” Kyle who was leaving the room stopped dead in his tracks with everything piled upon his arm.
“I am talking about this apartment. I need to show Abigail that…”
He did not let her complete it and started laughing, “You must be out of your fuckin mind.”
“What do you mean by that?” She shouted, “So… Hunter Levisay is also out of his FUC*KIN mind?”
Kyle was now getting more tired of all this bull shit. May be he should have stayed in his office and use his couch to sleep.
“He is Hunter Levisay. Owner of Levisay International. A CEO.” He rolled his eyes and started walking knowing that she will come after him,” While I am the owner of a struggling furniture showroom.”
Ethically I am only fifty percent owner of it. He did not say it out loud because he knew she would not like the reminder. And then an image of Abigail popped up in his mind. Confident. Bold.
Confronting him for his words. She was nothing like that but was more of a different kind of girl who never voiced her opinions, no matter how valuable they used to be.
Chloe on the other hand had always voiced her opinions. No matter how outrageous they were. Instead of responding to her whining, he kept loading the dish washer.
She came back into her room and banged the door with full force. This sorry excuse of a boyfriend who could not get married because of lack of finances. He was now postponing the wedding.
She wanted something….
Something to boost her morale. She started punching someone’s number on her phone. As soon as she heard a ‘hello’. She started twirling her hair around her finger.
“Yeah. It’s me. Have you placed the files?” She paused a little and then after hearing the answer she huffed in frustration.
“What are you saying? Honeymoon? St Lucia?” She always knew that going to St. Lucia had always been on Abigail’s bucket list.
Ok. Time to ask Kyle to at least make her fifty percent owner of this apartment and take her to St. Lucia.
But this was not the time to burn with jealousy.
This time when she spoke, there was a smirk on her face. She already felt victorious. Looking here and there, making sure that Kyle was not eavesdropping.
“Listen to me carefully.” She whispered, “They are on honeymoon. So it seems no one will be in the office, anymore. Now it’s easier. Right? Go and place the files, just where you are supposed to put them.”
There was an evil smirk playing on her lips.
