61- Dance with Kyle
People were having the time of their lives. After the meal, the music started at a very slow pace giving a calm effect. Hunter held her hand and took her to the dance floor. Taking a mic in his other hand he started speaking
“I hope you all liked the meal. Before starting my first dance with my wife, I would like to give her the wedding gift.”
Abigail was completely unaware, of what he was talking about. Though her heart did flutter on his words ‘My Wife ‘. She was also feeling a little self- conscious because of so many eyes glued to her.
Hunter knew how to grasp his audience’s attention. She, on the other hand, could not handle a compliment well. Thanks to Hunter for holding her hand so firmly throughout, otherwise she might have stumbled.
“Ever since I came into the business, and that too since a very young age. I had been living in hotels. No matter whether I go on a business trip or I am in my home town. It was always a hotel, but with my lovely wife in the picture now.” He looked at her with warmness. “I am pleased to announce that the place you all are standing is our home.”
Everyone cheered at that. Abigail smiled but his next words left her stunned. Her hand went to her mouth automatically as if to cover the shock.
“I present this place, this house as a wedding gift to my lovely wife, Abigail Levisay, who, no doubt, deserved something better. Actually much better!” he chuckled. “I wish I could give her something of more worth but I just can’t think of anything as worthy as her. I hope we both would help each other to make this place our home, our love nest!” their guests were applauding now.
“Hunter.” touching his arm Abigail whispered. On turning around Hunter found her crying. Moving away from the mic and handing it over to someone, Hunter quickly pulled her close to him. “Hey, baby.”
Now it was becoming too much for one night.
Honey! My wife! Baby!
She wanted to scream at him. Why he was doing that? What was the point? Because you wanted him to act as a crazily in love boyfriend and husband. Now, what’s the problem here? He is doing his part. And accept that he is doing it pretty well.
Hunter was holding her in his arms. ” Are you alright, sugar? Ready for our first dance?” Abigail raised her head smiling through her tears. Wiping her tears with his thumb he leaned down to kiss her on her lips. It was the gentlest of kisses. A very sweet one.
When the music started again, he held her closer and started dancing. She smiled and then shook her head, “What were you even thinking when you said all of that?”
Tilting back his head he frowned, ” Meaning?”
“Meaning this expensive property giving me as a present. By the way …. good move, chief!” she chuckled. He was quiet for a minute and then kissed her forehead. Something was bothering him, Abi realized.
“Did I say something wrong?” she could feel the tension between them but he shook his head and held her tighter. After their first dance Abi had a dance with Pa, then it was Richard. She was enjoying herself to the fullest.
She could see Hunter dancing with Carol then Geena, later when she went aside to catch a breath he had started his dance with Molly.
“Drinking water on your wedding night? No drinks for the bride?” She was sipping iced water when she heard a familiar voice behind her. She knew who it was. There was a time when this voice used to be the cause of her happiness. But not anymore.
Turning around she found Kyle standing there with a drink in his hand. She smiled, “I want to stay clear- headed tonight.”
“Ahan! So that you can enjoy your first time?” he sounded sarcastic. Oh, brother! He was jealous. “With Hunter, every time is the first time.” She told him sweetly taking a sip from her glass.
“What do you mean?” his brows creased.
“Nothing. It’s something private.” She said giving him, her best smile.
“Would you like to dance with me?” when the next song started, he asked her fully expecting her to decline the offer. But wanted to eat his head when she nodded politely.
Tying his arms around her, he started to move with the music. “You seem to have gained a little weight. I guess those donuts and cookies have started working on you.”
He knew how she was crazy about baked items and desserts. They both had spent so many years together.
She laughed at that, “Oh no, no!” shaking her head she raised her eyes to his face. “It’s Hunter.” she smiled gently.
“You did not take much time to jump at him.” he commented.
“Excuse me?” she was not expecting it. How dare he blamed her as if she was the one who cheated.
“Kyle! Sweetie!” she gave him an evil smile, “I accepted your dance offer because I thought you want to end this cold war between us. But I guess I should rub it on your face that yes. It didn’t take much time to jump. No! Not on him but IN HIS PANTS!” She gave a fu*k if people around them might hear.
“I was at least decent enough to do it when we were not together. Not at your back.” Then muttered under her breath, “loser!”
His mouth was hung open. The Abi, he knew had a sweet tooth. She did not even know how to defend herself. But this Abi who replied to him haughtily, showed him how strong she had become emotionally. The way she was looking in his eyes, not backing off.
Telling him that she could be kind and compassionate enough but not ready at all to take anybody’s shit. And not certainly his. How the hell did she get so much courage and strength?
He looked around and found Hunter glancing his way. When their eyes met, Hunter winked. The son of a …
He was angry at Abigail but unfortunately could not do much because the way her husband was looking at him was enough to tell him that he won’t spare him if he tried to mess with his wife.
“I want my wife for the next dance.”
When the music stopped Abi heard Hunter. Reluctantly Kyle let her go and left the dance floor.
“You … were so good, Mrs. Abigail Levisay. I am proud of you.” She did not know if she would ever get used to it. Mrs. Abigail Levisay!
