Chapter 30 What Type of Woman Do You Want?
Hanging her head low, Stella sat there uneasily, visibly troubled by the question. They were in a workplace, so she didn’t think it was suitable for them to talk about relationship scandals.
“Do you want the baby?” Miles asked. The question caught her completely off guard, which made her wonder, Why are Miles and I never on the same page? She stared at him with a look of surprise.
“Do you want the baby if you’re really pregnant?” While repeating the question, Miles stared into Stella’s eyes as well.
Upon hearing that, Stella’s face flushed due to anger. I am a married woman, so how dare he flirt with me like this? With that thought in mind, she bit on her bottom lip while turning to leave.
“Aren’t you going to answer my question?” His voice could be heard coming from behind.
“I’ll abort your child!” Exasperated, Stella said so without thinking, but her remark was met with Miles’ chuckle. Does that even sound funny?
On her way back to her office, she was curious about the whole thing, as Miles sounded as if he knew she wasn’t pregnant at all. Did Mr. Moore perhaps tell him something? It wasn’t until she questioned Kevin that she knew he also had an upset stomach when he got back to the company. Other than that, he also informed Miles of the incident.
Hence, she started filling in the blanks. First off, he knew both Mr. Moore and I had an upset stomach, so he wasn’t surprised by the fact that we vomited. Then, Zane came to inform Miles that the nonexistent baby is his—
All of a sudden, she was hit by the realization that Miles already knew for a fact that Zane never had sex with her. Did Zane tell him about it out of anger? Oh gosh! So he knew I was lying when I told him how affectionate my relationship with Zane was! The realization hit Stella so hard that she was overwhelmed by embarrassment.
That night, she seemed miserable when she was on her way home on the bus when she recalled the misunderstanding that occurred that day. Unexpectedly, her phone beeped with a message from Yulia that read, ‘Stella. Charmix Bar.’
The text came as a shock to Stella. This isn’t even a complete sentence. What does she mean by that? Her fingers darted around to type out, ‘Are you at Charmix Bar? What are you up to?’ However, she didn’t get a reply even after a long while.
Stella was unnerved by the fact that she wasn’t replying, thinking that Yulia might be drunk, or that she missed the message as the pub was too crowded and boisterous. After some thought, she got off the bus to hail a cab to Charmix Bar, only to bump into someone else at the entrance.
Ugh, I just saw him today, she thought. Miles was holding his phone while frowning. Despite looking impatient, he also seemed somewhat nervous due to how abrupt the incident was. There were a lot of people outside the bar, where one of them staggered forward before bumping into Stella. The impact pushed her into Miles’ arms, causing her to cover her chest with her arms anxiously before glancing at Miles with a worried look on her face.
“Are you alright?” Miles sounded rather concerned.
In response, Stella shook her head, figuring that he must’ve come because of what happened to Yulia. Under such circumstances, Yulia would definitely give the man she loved a message.
The bar was jam-packed, so it took them some time before they were able to locate Yulia, who was deep in her cups, at a corner of the bar. As soon as she saw Miles, she looped her arms around his neck with a look of joy, but he pushed her hand away in disgust. Almost instinctively, he turned to look at Stella.
Yulia was Stella’s cousin after all, so she was of course worried about her. Thus, she nodded in agreement without really dwelling on the meaning behind her action. It was as if Miles was acquiring her consent before he moved in to help another woman. It wasn’t until everything was over and when she reviewed their actions that she realized she had perhaps crossed a line. She shouldn’t have cared since she wasn’t even his girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Miles kept some distance between Yulia and himself while Stella followed behind. When they ushered Yulia into the car, she insisted on getting into the passenger seat.
“No!” Miles was persistent.
“Let her sit there if she so wishes to.” Stella appeared a little coquettish when she raised her head to look at Miles with a slight frown and said those words to him. In response, Miles said nothing, so she figured he must’ve relented. With that thought in mind, she got into the backseat herself.
