Chapter 127 Power and Contest
Miles got up from his chair and walked toward Kevin. “For me, I dislike people who talk too much and sow discord the most, especially men. So, you know what you should do. Considering you have a seriously ill daughter, the human resources department will add something to your compensation for being fired. Now go!”
Kevin was stunned all of a sudden. What does it mean? Has Miles fired me?
He had worked all his life and never thought he would be fired one day. Thus, he suddenly turned pale, and his expression was appalling as he said, “President Grant! President Grant, I didn’t do anything!”
Miles could not be bothered to pay attention to him and simply gave him a look of disgust.
Later, Kevin almost fell when he went down the stairs. He was over fifty years old, but now he was fired not because of his work but because he was long-tongued, making him very ashamed. When his coworkers asked why he was leaving, he kept his head down in shame. He had never been in so much humiliation before.
Indeed, it was he who told Adele that Miles had gotten back together with Stella, and the two even appeared in front of Jasmine holding hands, causing Jasmine to be upset and, in turn, upsetting him as her father too. After all, every parent loved their children, and so he did not feel that it was wrong to help his daughter snatch something that she wanted.
But today, Adele wanted Miles to marry Yvonne instead. Even though Kevin knew that Miles would probably never be with his daughter, Jasmine, he didn’t want Miles to get married so quickly and didn’t want to see his daughter’s beloved marrying any woman.
So, when Yulia found him and gave him the second half of the video, he was shocked and surprised because he saw the driver of the accident in the video—Yvonne. This shocked Kevin because he had never thought that it would be her.
Yulia had told him that it would take a year for her to give him the video, but now, after less than a year, she had suddenly given him the video. However, Yulia didn’t tell him the reason. She knew that he would definitely sue Yvonne out of his love for his daughter.
Then, Kevin looked at the video carefully, frame by frame. Fortunately, Yulia was very close at that time, so she filmed it very clearly. Upon hitting Jasmine, Yvonne had a vicious expression on, and she suddenly accelerated in a ruthless manner. Even after seeing Jasmine fall to the ground, she did not come down to look and simply drove the car away, which made Kevin so furious he almost cried. He was certain that Yvonne intentionally knocked down Jasmine, and he didn’t have to guess the reason behind it. It was all because of Miles!
At that time, Yvonne had just announced that she was going to marry Miles, but suddenly Jasmine appeared.
So now, Kevin was faced with a problem. Was he going to prosecute Yvonne for intentional homicide or traffic accident? He knew that the punishment for a simple traffic accident was not as heavy as the punishment for intentional homicide. In fact, the punishment for the latter would be heavy no matter how reduced it was. But if he sued for intentional homicide, then it was inevitable that he would have to tell everyone about his daughter’s thoughts and intentions; would it be good for her?
After Kevin thought about it, he finally decided to sue for intentional homicide. Because Yvonne’s family had money, her father would simply bring out some money to cover up any traffic crimes. Kevin wanted to sue for a crime that even money could not erase!
Gritting his teeth, Kevin felt that he should destroy Yvonne as both Jasmine’s enemy and as Adele’s candidate for Miles’ wife.
After so many years of designing, he had a sum of money so he could hire the best lawyer. However, the process of deposition was more difficult because Jasmine could not attend court. Since Jasmine was a paralyzed patient, Kevin was now her guardian, so he could fully represent her to attend court.
Jasmine could not even begin to express her interest in Miles, and besides, she could not speak. Luckily, she had a habit of keeping diaries, so her private thoughts and feelings as a young woman were all taken away by the lawyer. Although she felt extremely shy and embarrassed, she had no choice. On the day of the trial, Stella heard Miles talk about it and was quite shocked, so both of them decided to attend. Unexpectedly, Matthew also went and even sat in the same row as them.
When Miles saw Matthew, his eyes unconsciously glanced at Stella. It was as if she and Matthew’s reactions were quite similar. Both of them were embarrassed to talk or even look at each other. So, Miles sat in the middle.
It seemed that since the last time Stella gave Matthew the pendant back, there had existed some sort of strangeness between the two. Matthew was struggling, while Stella was avoiding, and even though they could talk to each other, none of them spoke, causing the atmosphere to be particularly awkward. And it was exactly this atmosphere between the two that made Miles alert and especially scared. There was no substantial relationship between them, yet there was some sort of vague connection in the air, making Miles knit his brows deeply.
Therefore, he was careful not to be the one to pick their relationship apart because once he did, Stella would realize Matthew’s deep love for her, and certain feelings would become out of control in the future.
Matthew’s love for Stella was very deep, and Miles understood this kind of affection. Even when the case of intentional homicide was pronounced, he was a little distracted as he glanced at Stella and Matthew in turn. But both of them were concentrating on the case.
Because Kevin’s lawyer was especially well prepared and had the confidence of winning the case, and because the trial was surprised upon Yvonne, which caused her to arrive in a mess, in the end, the court decided that they would adjourn the sentencing to another day. However, it seemed that Yvonne would lose this lawsuit.
Then, Miles wondered how the evidence in Kevin’s hands came about. It was impossible that he had it earlier on because if he did, he should have sued earlier, considering his love for Jasmine. Why did he wait until now? Thus, the only possible answer was that it was given to him by someone else. Thinking of that, Miles thanked the person in his heart for helping him get rid of Yvonne.
After all, Miles knew that he was about to fight to the death with Yvonne. She was too strong-natured and would definitely give Stella a lot of trouble.
When the trial was over, Stella and Miles walked out of the courthouse. Stella acted as if she did not see Matthew and walked especially fast, then hurriedly got into the car. But Miles could see that Stella occasionally glanced at the rearview mirror because Matthew was getting into the car behind them. At that, his teeth clenched a little, for in this life, many women had pursued him, and he was never interested in them. So, he had never experienced this kind of ambiguous feelings.
He recalled the message Yvonne had sent him before, which included the picture of Matthew staring at Stella’s back from behind. Even though the woman did not say anything, it was enough to make jealousy surge in Miles’ heart.
In fact, he had obtained Stella’s body first. So, he was jealous of Matthew.
At night, he ruthlessly made love to Stella, and it was so violent that the bed was spotted with blood. In a tone full of anger, he asked Stella, “Do you love me?”
This was the first time he had used the word ‘love’. While Stella’s physical pain was mixed with her confused emotions, she replied under his body, “I do. I love you very much!”
At that, Miles’ emotions soothed a bit, and he became gentler as he tenderly started nibbling at Stella’s ear and cheeks. Then, Stella’s face became very hot because what she said was indeed the truth.
Because Yvonne’s case had not yet been sentenced, Yvonne came to find Miles one afternoon. In her case, there was a key point regarding Jasmine’s interest in Miles. Besides, there was an important issue about the matter of Yvonne and Miles back then. Although Miles was not a witness nor an involved party, he was a key individual. This was because Kevin had claimed that Yvonne’s motive was due to her love for Miles. Hence, if Miles could say that Jasmine had never confessed to him, and Yvonne did not know about it, then there would be no evidence of Yvonne’s motive for killing Jasmine. Thus, the so-called intentional killing would be downgraded to a simple traffic accident, and Yvonne was aware of the differences between a traffic accident and intentional murder.
But unexpectedly, Miles only said, “This case has nothing to do with me, and I’m not involved!”
“Miles, you won’t let me get destroyed like that, right? What good will it do you if I go to prison?” Yvonne was anxious. Although Miles really didn’t know Jasmine’s affection for him, he really didn’t want to help Yvonne with this!
Now that he knew that Jasmine was actually run over by Yvonne, he really could not imagine what else this ruthless woman could do. In addition, she had done it secretly, which was even scarier. Throughout the whole discussion, Stella had been listening to the side. Fortunately, Yvonne was not looking for her, nor did Yvonne cast any strange looks at her.

On the day of the trial, Kevin seemed to be full of conviction to bring Yvonne to justice. In the end, the court sentenced Yvonne to ten years in prison and compensated Jasmine with 580,000.
Later, Yvonne gritted her teeth and said to Kevin that she would appeal and not spend her life in prison.
Kevin spat, “Do as you wish! It’s reasonable for you to spend your time in prison after attempting to kill my daughter!”
While waiting for Yvonne’s appeal, Matthew came to Miles’ villa.
But unexpectedly, when he arrived, Stella began to feel overwhelmed and harried. As for Matthew, he didn’t talk to her.
