Chapter 126 The Point of No Return
“Didn’t he call you ‘Stella’ before? Why did he change to ‘Miss Stella’ now? We are finally of the same rank.” Miles was slightly happy to hear the kid calling her ‘Miss Stella’.
Stella originally did not want to mention this matter, but Zachariah quickly said, “My mother told me that if I only call her ‘Stella’, Miss Stella might not become my mother!” The child did not care much about these words, but Stella realized that Miles’ expression had changed. She did not dare to look at him, but she knew that the veins on both sides of his temples were throbbing. However, he pretended that nothing had happened.
Because of Zachariah’s words, Stella was more or less distracted because she wanted to know what Miles was feeling now. A few moments later, Miles’ phone rang—it was a call from the company headquarters, saying that there was an urgent matter in the company and that he should go back.
Hence, Miles told Stella that he still had some things to deal with back at the company, and she should stay here first if she wished to stay with Zachariah a little longer. Stella agreed, but when Miles was leaving, she looked at him with probing eyes, hoping to see that he was not really angry.
But Miles’ expression was deep, and he also gave a deep look at Stella which was unfathomable as the deep sea.
After Miles got into the car, he made a phone call to his home in Canada. This call was made to his housekeeper at home, asking her to keep an eye on Adele and tell him in time if she made any surprise moves.
Stella accompanied Zachariah for a long time until Matthew came and the nanny went back.
Today, Matthew’s expression was calmer compared to the day Zachariah was injured, and there was more gentleness in between his eyebrows. Previously, Stella went to him to return his jade pendant, and that day, Matthew had unconsciously revealed his state of mind. All along, he did not want Stella to know what he was thinking and feeling.
After all, the world was full of things that weren’t meant to be, and Miles was also his good friend, so he did not want to steal his friend’s woman away from him. But it was clear that Stella also remembered that day’s events when she saw him. At that time, because Zachariah was injured, they were in a very anxious mood and did not think much about it.
But then when she thought about it, Matthew’s annoyed ‘take it’ could only be from someone who was in love with her.
Thinking of it made Stella blush. She peeled an apple for Zachariah as Matthew stood behind her with one hand in his pocket. Staring at Stella’s back, he asked, “So you’re back, huh?”
“Yeah,” Stella answered mildly. “I came back with him, and he also came to see Zack just now. However, something happened in the company, so he left first.”
At that, Matthew looked down and smiled bitterly. He? Who is she referring to?
Stella did not know that the hospital where Zachariah stayed in was also the hospital where Yvonne worked. At this time, Yvonne had just finished a surgery and came out of the operating room exhausted. Because she had to go to the department downstairs to look for someone, she hurriedly passed by Zachariah’s ward.
She recognized Matthew’s child, Zachariah, lying on the bed. Then, her gaze turned toward the woman next to him, who was even more familiar to her. Although she only saw Stella’s silhouette, the latter was her love rival after all, so she could recognize her at a glance. Moreover, Matthew’s silhouette was even clearer as he was standing behind Stella.
This kind of relationship was immediately clear to Yvonne, who sneered and found a good angle to take a picture of Stella and Matthew by using his back to block Zachariah’s gaze. Then, she walked toward the department while sending the picture to Miles with the caption: ‘She’s cheating on you!’
When Miles received the message, he did not respond because he hated such people who tried to drive a wedge between others.
He understood what was going on between Matthew and Stella, but he never took the initiative to mention it, nor did he stop it. Miles was absolutely certain that Matthew would not tell Stella how he felt about her. Besides, even though Stella treated Matthew well, Miles had never brought it up despite being jealous. He was aware that once he said it, it would create a domino’s effect in clarifying many emotions that were currently vague, then it would magnify Matthew’s ambiguous emotions as well. Miles would never be so dumb as to push Stella into the arms of another man!
But this did not mean that he was not jealous. On the contrary, he was extremely jealous.
Stella did not stay to chat with Matthew and only said goodbye to Zachariah before leaving.
During her time in Hollowcrest, Stella went to stay in Miles’ villa, but soon, something happened—Meridian Trading began to ask Amon for the batch of custom-made clothing. Stella knew without a doubt that it was Yulia’s order. After all, she was once a higher-up of Meridian Trading, so even though she had left the company, she still had influence over clothing orders.
Fortunately, at that time, she and Matthew had agreed not to remake this batch of clothes for more sales. Therefore, even if Meridian Trading wanted to do something this time, they would not succeed. Since Stella had thought of this in advance, she was not at all surprised nor nervous when this happened. It was just that she had to guard against the person behind this matter who was gradually resurfacing.
However, during this time, Miles never asked Stella and Matthew about what was going on, as if he already knew. The only thing that Stella did not expect was that Matthew had filled in his own name in the column of ‘Clothes Designer.’
Both Stella and Miles understood why he did what he did.
Matthew was afraid that Yulia might bring up the flaws in the designs one day. If they wrote Stella’s name as the designer of the clothes, Yulia would certainly find fault with her. On the contrary, writing Matthew’s name would minimize any risks of running into trouble. This was because Yulia and Matthew had no grudges against each other, so even if she was looking for trouble, he would bear it all.
All three people knew what was going on, but nobody spoke about it. If it were another company, others would fight and sue for the right to take credit as the designer. However, Stella only felt uneasy in the face of Matthew’s thoughtfulness.
One day, Adele came to Miles’ company. Before she entered the office, Miles already knew. After all, he had sent people to keep an eye on her all along, so he understood the purpose of her visit. Therefore, he called Kevin into the office beforehand on the grounds of ‘having to discuss work’.
It was obvious that Adele was here to interrogate Miles, but due to the presence of Kevin, she was hesitant to speak.
When Miles realized her concern, he said, “He’s one of us. So say what you want to say!”
“Miles, you know your status well. Generally, people of your status either look for women of the same level of achievement or daughters of the powerful to complement each other. Yet, you’re with a woman who has nothing. What are you even doing?” Adele was so cranky that she refused to sit.
“I just love her!” Miles retorted. “If you’re trying to benefit from me, let me tell you that it’s not possible! I’m very resolute about this matter, so if you want to withdraw your shares, go ahead!”
Upon seeing that Miles was not submitting to her at all, Adele helplessly glanced at Kevin, who clenched his teeth and lowered his head.
“Miles, I am now offering you a candidate for marriage. Do you want to hear about it?” Adele was now really starting to get anxious, so she was pulling out all the stops.
Sneering, Miles sat in his chair and lit a cigarette. “Tell me about it, then!”
“It’s Yvonne North! She has a good family background, and she is a hundred times better than your Stella. I know that you’re now living with that woman, but I’ll pretend that I didn’t know about this at all!”
In fact, Adele had thought about everything before she suggested Yvonne. After all, Lunaria Inc. was recently listed in America, and she had met up with Yvonne’s father there, which resulted in a happy discussion.
Even though they did not know each other previously, this kind of relationship could be cultivated!
Kevin stood by the side, his expression growing twisted by the minute. At this moment, there was someone who wanted to knock outside Miles’ door, but upon hearing the discussion inside, she did not knock and chose to eavesdrop outside instead. This person was none other than Yulia.
When she heard the name ‘Yvonne North’, she froze instantly.
It was said that this kind of marriage within large and powerful families was just like marriages among the royalty during the imperial era in the past. Marriages were never under an individual’s own control—they had to marry whoever could maximize their own interests and balance the interests of various parties.
Since Miles belonged to this kind of family, his own life also met the same constraints. Stella was Miles’ beloved woman, but ultimately, she was different from Yvonne, who came from another powerful family. Moreover, Adele even suggested for Yvonne to marry Miles…
Even though it was unlikely, Yulia figured this might come true and realized that Yvonne would be harder to go up against than Stella. The only way she could prevent this was to make her own killer move.
“Yvonne? I broke up an engagement with her once.” Miles was obviously filled with disdain for Yvonne.
“Anyway, just consider carefully about her.” Adele knew that Miles would definitely not listen to her, and she could not help but grow impatient. “I’m leaving first. You think about it.”
When Yulia heard this, she hurriedly walked away, pretending that she was just about to pass by Miles’ office. Fortunately, after Adele came out, she didn’t notice Yulia at all. When Kevin was about to leave, Miles called him back. “Adele is not supposed to know about Stella and me getting together. How did she find out?”
Miles obviously wanted to attack Kevin this time.
“I-I don’t know!” Only now did Kevin realize that Miles had a purpose in getting him to come to the office. This time, Miles’ purpose was not to show Adele how resolute he was, but mainly to uncover Kevin.
“You don’t know?” Miles leaned back against his chair while tapping his pen on his desk. Right now, his gaze was sternly fixed upon Kevin.
“President Grant, I-I r-really don’t know.” Kevin was not a good talker to begin with, and at such moments, his aptitude was even more lost.
