“D*mn it! You’re just a measly soul remnant, yet you dare have delusions about me. I’m going to beat up you until your soul scatters into oblivion today!”
Catalina was furious.
“Haha… How daring of you to talk big when your capabilities are suppressed.”
The man laughed heartily, completely unafraid.
Even though he was a soul remnant, and his strength had diminished to a mere fraction of what it once was, dealing with people like her and Jared, whose powers had been suppressed and were no more than ordinary folks, it was a sure win for him.
“Drop dead!”
Suddenly, Catalina spread her palm open. The runes on it flashed brilliantly.
Immediately after, a streak of golden light shot toward the man.
The man was instantly taken aback and swiftly retreated. At the same time, the stone beast statues on both sides of the main hall abruptly began moving.
The golden beam struck a stone beast statue and surprisingly reflected off the numerous others, its power gradually fading away.
When Catalina saw that it had missed its target, her expression turned incredibly gloomy because she knew that it was her only chance.
The man then reappeared before Jared and Catalina, his gaze fixated on the latter, his eyes blazing with fury.
“What’s your relationship with that old priest, girl? Why do you have runes he drew for you? No matter who you are to him, my state today is all thanks to him. So, I’ll just take it out on you.”
After the man had said that, he waved his hand lightly.
A surge of force hoisted Catalina off her feet, leaving her struggling for breath and feeling as if she was on the brink of death.
She desperately clutched at her jade pendant. Just as she was about to shatter the life-saving token, a glint suddenly whizzed over.
“Let go of her!”
Wielding Dragonslayer Sword, Jared struck out at the man with a powerful swing.
The terrifying sword intent somewhat startled him, and he promptly dropped his hold on Catalina.
Even Jared himself wasn’t sure how he
managed to unleash that sword intent with that strike.
“Even with your powers suppressed, kid, you still possess such remarkable strength. It seems that your physical body is truly tough. Looks like I made the right choice. If your physical body were lacking, you wouldn’t have been able to withstand my possession. The fact that 1’m going to possess you is your ultimate honor.”
With that said, the man headed straight toward him.
This time, Jared didn’t use Dragonslayer Sword. Instead, he launched a punch at the man.
“Sacred Light Fist!” he roared.
Even with the might of his physical body alone, he managed to unleash tens of thousands of rays of golden light.
The man’s brows furrowed slightly. Then, he abruptly vanished from sight.
The light faded away, and the main hall was left devoid of any trace of him.
Just as Jared was feeling somewhat puzzled, a surge of force suddenly hit him. In an instant, he was sent flying backward.
Crash! Crash! Crash!
He shattered several stone beast statues before landing heavily on the ground.
No sooner had he stopped than he began spewing blood, making it clear that he had been seriously injured.
“Jared!” Upon seeing that, Catalina hurriedly rushed over, looking at Jared with worry etched across hér face.
Jared stared back at her, speechless. If it weren’t for her, I might have been able to get the man to enter my consciousness field without his guard up by playing dumb to possess me!
“Surprisingly, you know a fist technique from the celestial realm. If I’m not mistaken, that punch of yours must be Whalreth’s ultimate skill. I truly never expected that it would appear on a low-level cultivator like you after thousands of years. Once I’ve possessed you, I’ll boost your strength significantly.”
The man’s figure slowly materialized in mid-air in the main hall. He looked down at both Jared and Catalina.
“I won’t allow you to possess him!”
Catalina shielded Jared behind her, clutching the life-saving token in her hand.
Seeing that, Jared was promptly dumbfounded. He quickly urged, “Hurry up and leave, Ms. Lantz. Don’t bother about me.”
“No way. I’ll never abandon you.”
Catalina shook her head.
