The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 973
Madelyn did not respond to Zach’s query. He approached and sat beside her, his deep gaze following her line of sight before darkening.
“I’ve arranged everything with the photoshoot company,” Zach began, breaking the silence. Once you’re better, the custom wedding dresses from overseas will arrive in the capital. We can try them on then.”
Zach reached for Madelyn’s hand, but she swiftly withdrew it. She said, “Zach, stop it already! You processed our marriage certificate on my behalf without acknowledging me. You’ve achieved your goal. So, stop seeking my attention.”
Zach, undeterred by Madelyn’s words, said, “The PR department will announce our marriage. Soon, everyone in the capital will know you’re the wife of the CEO of Jardin Corporation.”
“Zach! Do you realize how people viewed our relationship in the past? You were my father’s adopted son, my brother. Now that he’s gone and we are married, do you know how others will judge us?” Madelyn asked.
When Madelyn married Zach in the previous lifetime, she wanted to tell everyone she was his wife, but he was unwilling. Being married to her seemed like a humiliation to him. Now, when she was unwilling and had given up on him, he wanted to do that.
“You don’t need to care about them. All you have to do is attend the company’s annual
meeting with me after the wedding photoshoot,” said Zach.
Madelyn suspected Zach intended to provoke her deliberately.
He gently stroked Madelyn’s hair. He softened his gaze and said, “Get some rest.”
Then Zach stood to leave and coughed a few times, showcasing his unwell condition. Madelyn noticed Zach’s illness seemed persistent. Even his palm felt feverishly hot.
Zach went to his study. He slumped in his chair and gazed at the ceiling. Beside him were two bottles of white pills. They were medications given by Kai to suppress emotions.
Kai had warned him, “This medication is effective, but it may affect fertility. However, it won’t impact your ability. I suggest using the original medicine. Mental illness isn’t like a common cold that heals in a few days. It requires a long recovery.”
Zach ultimately chose the medication with side effects. To win Madelyn back, Zach had expended much effort.
“Zach, run…”
“D-Don’t hurt him.”
The sounds of agony filled Zach’s ears, and the thatched hut was covered in blood. He looked back and saw a fiercely intense fire raging. Everyone was caught in the blaze, struggling in pain and torment.
“Helen!”
Zach woke from the nightmare, sweating and disoriented. It was dark outside, except for the dim light in the study. His heart raced as if a giant hand was squeezing it. It had been a while since he had such a vivid dream.
Zach stepped out of the study and immediately noticed a lingering smell of grilled food in the bedroom. He frowned subtly, observing the sleeping figure in the dim moonlight. He lay down beside Madelyn.
Madelyn was in a deep, muddled sleep. Though her fever had subsided, she still felt miserable with a throbbing headache and dizziness. Suddenly, she felt someone embracing her. She shifted uncomfortably and said, “My head! It hurts!”
She began to feel better after she felt a gentle pressure massaging her temples, soothing her discomfort. Then, she was able to sleep soundly, but having gone to bed early, she awoke at midnight and could not fall back asleep.
As Madelyn moved, she felt a hand on her head, massaging gently.
